     Speaking on the 2023 International Womens day theme "Digital Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality ", Mr Atibuaghesamo Micheal, a Technological Expert and Agricultural Technician dwelled on how women can leverage on technology for economic and social development. He adviced women to use technology positively so as to increase sales, brand visibility, through content creation, graphic designing, amongst others. 


" Everything about technology lies in your smartphone. Graphic designing is presently one of the highest paid skills; more women should engage in this to generate income" Atibuaghesamo Micheal tells participants at the roundtable conference.

   He added that in the domain of social development, women can gain employment opportunities as social media managers, content creators, amongst others.

   On her part, Evelyn Bisona, a Gender Activist and Digital Rights Expert says this years theme challenges women not just to be users of the internet but also to be innovative and think out of the box. She encouraged women to invest in Science Technology and Mathematics (STEM) and become experts in  developing apps, including creating online content.

   Speaking on the impact of technology on the family, Evelyn Bisona said technology has many advantages to a woman as it could be used to search and do remote work online, helps in birth control through fertility apps, and is also a source of entertainment. She continued that technology not withstanding the glearing advantages also has disadvantages such that it limits outdoor events, encourages sexual harassment online, among others.



According to the Gender Officer of MIDENO, Mrs Mato Anju Lum, the 2023 womens day recognizes and celebrates the girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education. It spotlights the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in the digital space and also addresses online and ICT facilitated Gender Based Violence (GBV).

  1. This was a great event as it is going to spike in the minds and hearts of women to take action. It was a waking call for women to take advantages of what technology has to offer and leverage massively by engaging in its related activities .
