Financed by a 59 Billion World Bank loan with additional 1.48 Billion FCFA state funding, the project targets six food crisis-affected Regions in Cameroon, including the North West. It aims to alleviate the pressures on natural resources exacerbated by conflict and climate change which have severely impacted food availability and affordability.

Speaking at the event held at the North West Development Authority (MIDENO) premises, Minister Mbairobe Gabriel highlighted the project’s critical role in fighting food insecurity.

"North West is the backbone of our agriculture because  many seedlings are produced in the Region. This project aims to give humanitarian  assistance to the vulnerable population. The project will give the people food, seedlings and agricultural inputs. The  second component  of the project is to Strengthen the productive  capacity of farmers which includes giving them improved seeds and seedlings, fertilizers, power tillers and to help them construct some community infrastructure  inorder to master the use of water and be resilient against climate shocks. I invite all farmers to make good use of the inputs” Minister Mbairobe stated.

For 2024, MIDENO, in partnership with the World Food Program and the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), will focus on distributing cassava kits, plantain plantlets, power tillers, fertilizers, insecticides, and other agricultural inputs to over 1,500 farmers in the North West Region. These inputs are designed to boost agricultural productivity and ensure that farmers are better equipped to face future challenges.

Similarly, Winka Eric, who received plantain plantlets, shared how previous support from similar initiatives had transformed his life and what the recent assistance means to him.

“This is the third time I've received these plantain seedlings, and they have made a big difference for me and my family. Two of my children are almost in University thanks to the income from selling the plantains. I encourage all farmers to be part of such opportunity because they help to boost our source of livelihood and feeding" Winka noted.

Beyond immediate relief, PULCCA aims to foster long-term agricultural development, creating a more resilient farming community capable of overcoming future crises. This holistic approach not only addresses current food shortages but also equips farmers to better manage climate-related challenges, ensuring sustainable growth and stability in the face of an evolving climate.
