​MINADER launches 2022 farming season in South Region; distributes equipment to farmers

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER), Gabriel Mbairobe on Tuesday April 26th 2022 officially launched farming activities for 2022 in the South Region of the country.

During his launching speech, the Minister beckoned on the population to engage in positive competition so as to better improve production and productivity in the agriculture sector. Adding that, there should be restoration of abandoned plantations and no deforestation in Nja and Lobo Division of the south Region.

"In order to accelerate the transformation of agricultural products and give them more value, MINADER shall in the weeks ahead install processing units in Sangmelima, amongst which will include;

3 palm oil processing units,

3 plantain and banana processing units and 

8 cassava processing units" Min Mbairobe during the launch.


He also acknowledged the efforts of farmers in the crises stricken North West and Southwest Regions, who despite insecurity challenges, still manage to carryout agricultural activities. 

Addressing the public during the event, the Mayor of Sangmelima Bokono Faustine expressed immense thanks to the Minister for his choice of Sangmelima to host this years launching. He further  thanked the population for coming out in their numbers and for bringing products to showcase during the launching exercise.

The distribution of farm equipments and inputs to some 40 selected farmer groups within the Region, also characterized part of celebrations. The items include;

Wheelbarrows, maize seeds, trucks, helmets, fertilizers, fungicides, cutlasses, amongst other inputs.





Some dignatories also present during the event were the Minister Delegate incharge of Decentralization and local Government, Delegates for Agriculture from different Regions of the country,Administrative Authorities, Project Coordinators, Farmers, amongst others.
