2023 Planting Season launched, Improved seeds distributed to farmers in Donga-Mantung

The 2023 Farming season for the Northwest Region has been launched and improved seeds distributed to farmers. The event recently took place in Nkambe, Donga-Mantung Division.

Presiding at the launching exercise, the Governor of the Northwest Region H.E Lele LAfrique lauded the population of Nkambe for their continuous interest in Agriculture, despite security challenges in the Region.

"I urge you to make proper use of the improved seeds and farm inputs received from the Government, through MIDENO. It is an open secret that the soil has never deceived anyone. So we need to scale up production in order to mitigate the consequences of the present crisis characterised by the abandonment of farms in rural areas where the population has been displaced"

On his part, the Director General of MIDENO said MIDENO was created to improve production and productivity in the Agriculture sector, and to also assure food security in the North West Region and Cameroon as a whole.

He congratulated the population for their determination to remain attached to farms inspite of the ravaging challenges of the Sociopolitical crisis and continued that it is proof that Agriculture is truly the life wire of the Division.

"Our support to farmers is intended to assure the farmers of the Northwest Region of our pledge to work with you to make your farms flourish oncemore as part of the mission of MIDENO, which is to alleviate poverty and assure food security in the Region"

MIDENO GM told farmers in Nkambe.

In his welcome speech, the Mayor of Nkambe expressed satisfaction and thanked the Governor, DG MIDENO and other Administrative Authorities for braving the odds to travel through bad roads for the launching exercise. He continued that his Municipality was privileged to host an event of that magnitude and chaired by the Governor of the Northwest Region.

He highlighted some major projects executed by MIDENO in Nkambe including;

Opening of farm to market roads, building of schools, health facilities, bridges, and empowerment of farmers with improved farm inputs.

Mayor Musa Shey Nfor on behalf of the farming community assured the Governor and MIDENO Management that the seeds and inputs received will go a long way to boost the agriculture sector in Nkambe, given that it is the life wire of the Division.

A total number of 40 bags of NPK, 20 10.10 fertilizer, 80 bags of Urea,75 bags of EM Agriculture, 225 bags of EM Compose, 80 bags of EM 5, 25 small scale maize shelling machines and 2 tons of improved maize seeds were distributed to the farming population of Donga-Mantung during the launching exercise.

The launching and distribution exercise that held Thursday 23rd March also witnessed the presence of the North West Delegate for Agriculture and Rural Development, Administrative and Traditional officials, dance groups and the farming population of Donga-Mantung Division.
