North West Governor visits MIDENO/MINTP road works in Awing, Scores Realization at 80%

The Governor of the North West Region recently paid an assessment visit to the ongoing road works in Awing. Jointly executed by The North West Development Authority (MIDENO) and the Ministry of Public Works (MINTP), with field coordination by Ndong Awing Cultural and Development Association (NACDA) ,the 41. 7Km road project linking Akum, Awing, Bamunyam and Ngalia is a project that is expected to pave way for other development projects in the Awing community.

 


While touring the 41.7km road, Adolphe Lele LAfrique called on the Awing people to be the light, and work towards  bringing lasting peace in the community.

“ I would like to thank on behalf of Government, the Awing population for creating a conducive environment for the realization of this project. I also want to express gratitude to the Ministry of Public Works through the North West Regional Delegation for partnering with MIDENO to jointly execute this giant project. The Head of States and Prime Minister whom I am here to represent are satisfied with the level of realization and have promised to include the Awing community in future development projects in the Region”

Talking to the Press during the field visit, the Director General of MIDENO disclosed that the first phase of the project is almost complete and the second will be launched in the weeks ahead.

“ We have already realized 26km in the first phase, with a total of above 80% realization. We started by sensitizing the population to see the need for this development initiative. So far we have had a very good collaboration from the community through NACDA”

North West Delegate for Public Works on his part said Engineering and hydraulic structures shall be put up during the 2nd phase of the project, with effective follow up by MINTP.

“So far the collaboration with MIDENO has been successful all through the 1st phase of the project, which we are soon rounding up. We are looking forward to commence work on the 2nd phase in the days ahead”

“ The entire road has been opened and the actual work left for us is the bridges to construct. One major problem we are facing is finances.Nevertheless,the DG is doing everything possible so we can continue with work”

“It was very stressful to carry passengers around and we could not go to some neighborhoods as a result of poor roads. We are very happy and thankful to MIDENO for rehabilitation and opening our roads. We can now transport persons and goods without any major challenge”

The NACDA Women community welcomed the Governor and entourage and briefed them about earmarked projects by the women’s wing such as, a 4 floor storey building that will contain a training centre for girls, a show room, secretariat and lodging facilities for guests.

“ we are pleased with our new road which so far has been of great benefit to us. Despite this development, we still face some challenges in our community like inadequate water. Our taps are not flowing, animals are unable to get water, we plead for our leaders to look into these problems”

The Governor was accompanied by the SDO of Mezam, North West Regional Delegate of National Security, the D.O of Santa, Mayor of Awing, North West Regional Delegate in charge of The Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), Administrative and Traditional officials.
