Ntambang Community Receives Training on Toxic Masculinity/Fair Inheritance/GBV

Ntambeng Community Members Trained on Toxic Masculinity/Fair Inheritance/SRHR

Members of Ntambang Community have been trained on Toxic Masculinity, Sexual Reproduction Health Rights, Fair Inheritance and Parental Responsibility. The training that held through training sessions, door to door visits and orientation was carried out by Community spokespersons under the Adjust for me Project” implemented by COMAGEND.

A participant, Audu Hawa had the following to say after the training of women and youths on GBV, SRHR and Toxic Masculinity

“Parents please observe your children and make sure you donnot allow male and female children sleep in a single room or bath together. Donnot keep your children under the care of your relatives of the opposite sex who can easily influence them. Also avoid using cliche names for body parts. Rather educate them on their body parts and the dangers involved if misused.

“Nigerian movies also play a significant role in the upbringing of children so please make sure you closely follow up your children and the kind of content they watch online. These days children mature as early as 9 to 10 years. Mothers should be observant so as to give them the right orientations about their body parts”

Audu Hawa continued.

The team also held talks with family heads on Fair inheritance and toxic masculinity during which participants were schooled on the advantages of having women inherit their parents.

“ I am totally against a woman inheriting the father because I cannot work all my life and have a woman inherit and give to the husband when she gets married. It is unfair as the husband may trigger her to sell or mismanage the inheritance. Men are the only ones who are capable of properly managing their inheritance”

Bouba, Ntambang resident.

Beatrice Foma is a midwife resident in Ntambang and believes GBV related cases are prevalent but can be prevented if the right education is given the girl child especially.

“GBV is rampant because children in this generation are exposed to a lot of gadgets which triggers early maturity. Most children use android phones to watch pornography movies and non educational content. I want to strongly advise parents who share same room with their children to use a blind or wood to separate their rooms so kids donnot see them getting intimate”

Founded by Amplify Change and implemented by COMAGEND in some selected four Council areas in Bamenda, the “Adjust for Me” Project targets SRHR Issues like GBV, Toxic Masculinity and barriers to accessing SRH services.
